Roots - Lent Photo Challenge

Roots…

Have you ever tried to pull “crab grass”?  The roots on that type of grass are never ending.  You can pull and pull and still not get to the end of the root.  The roots intertwine with the roots from the other grass plants and the plant becomes a very hardy one that is hard to get rid of.  Frustrating for the one who is trying to rid their garden of the grass!

Take a moment to think about the evil one.  He is trying to rid any aspect of God in your life.  He doesn’t want you to have time to spend with God because what happens when you spend time with your Lord?  Your roots grow deeper.  You lean on Christ to lead your life.  “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” (Colossians 2:6)  Being rooted in Christ leaves the devil frustrated because Christ has defeated the devil.  There is no hope for the devil when Christ is involved.

That doesn’t mean the devil isn’t going to try to weed you out.  In fact, he is going to try really hard to pull you away from Christ; but if we stay rooted in Christ he can’t.  Remember the crab grass roots intertwined, which contributed to their strength.  Intertwine yourself in many ways.  Spend time with the Lord daily, be in constant prayer, surround yourself with people who will help you grow in your faith and pray with you, worship on Sunday mornings or whenever your church meets, and the list goes on.  Be rooted in Christ.
