Prayer Journal - Hear!

Prayer Journal Continued...

Psalm 10:16-17
The Lord is King forever and ever;
the nations parish from his land.
O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted;
you will strengthen their heart;
you will incline your ear.

The Lord hears us so cry out to Him!

Prayer Journal - Encamps

Prayer Journal continued...

Psalm 34:4-7
"I sought the Lord, and He answered me
and delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to Him are radiant,
and their faces shall never be ashamed.
The poor man cried, and the Lord heard him
and save him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,
and delivers them."

Seek the Lord in everything!  Find comfort in knowing He hears you and the angel of the Lord is encamped around you and will deliver you.

Prayer Journal - We Are His!

Prayer Journal Continued...

Psalm 100
"Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into His presence with singing!
Know that the Lord, He is God!
It is He who made us, and we are His;
we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving,
and His courts with praise!
Give thanks to Him; bless His name!
For the Lord is good;
His steadfast love endures forever,
and His faithfulness to all generations!

So many times we forget to thank our Lord for all that He has done.  These verses, alone, remind us of how much we have to be thankful for!  Spend time writing thanks to the Lord.

Prayer Journal - My Side

Prayer Journal Continued...

Psalm 118:4-6
"Let those who fear the Lord say,
His steadfast love endures forever.
Out of my distress I called on the Lord:
the Lord answered me and set me free.
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear.
What can man do to me?

When you cry out in distress how has the Lord answered you?  This is when a prayer journal is good to look back on and see how the Lord has answered you!  You will see His steadfast love endures forever!

Prayer Journal - How Great

Prayer Journal Continued...

Psalm 92:1-5
"It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praises to your name, O most High;
to declare your steadfast love in the morning,
and your faithfulness by night,
to the music of the lute and the harp,
to the melody of the lyre.
For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work;
at the works of your hands I sing for joy.
How great are your works, O Lord!
Your thoughts are very deep!

How are the works of the Lord great in your life?  Thank Him!

Prayer Journal - Wisdom

Prayer Journal Continued...

Proverbs 2:3-6

"Yes, if you call out for insight
and raise your voice for understanding,
If you seek it like silver
and search for it as for hidden treasures,
then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God
For the Lord gives wisdom;
from His mouth come knowledge and understanding."

The Lord tells us to ask for wisdom - ask!

Prayer Journal...Blessed

Prayer Journal Continued...

Psalm 32:1-3
Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord does not count against him,
and in whose spirit is no deceit.
When I kept silent, my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long.

Continue to converse with God.  Recognize the blessings you have received and thank Him for them.  Also know that silence eats away at you!  Share with the Lord your transgressions.

Prayer - A New Level

Prayer Life

My prayer life was taken to a new level when I went to recording my prayers in a book; or what some might call a prayer journal.  I can contribute this idea to books such as "Praying in Color" by Sybil MacBeth or "Writing to God" by Rachel G. Hackenberg.  Both books offer great ideas but I adapted my own style and what worked for me.  My prayer journal uses one page each day - front and back.  The front focuses on a section of scripture and the back focuses on the prayers.  The front is filled with thoughts and other scripture that support the verses I am looking at.  Then on the back, my prayers for the day begin with what I focused on in scripture.  For instance, if the verses talked about endurance I prayed for endurance.

By writing my prayers down a couple of things happened.  First, I am able to truly focus as my mind wanders less.  Second, I can go back and look at what prayers I had.  In that, I can see how the Lord answered those prayers, how He was with me throughout a troubling time, and the blessings I have been given in life.

Yesterday was Ash Wednesday and I challenged you to fill your days drawing closer to the Lord as we reflect in this time of Lent.  Prayer deepens the relationship one has with Christ.  So for the next 40 days, I am going to offer a section of scripture to consider looking at.  Then take time pray in whatever manner works for you.  Find a notebook to write out your prayers.  Look back after the 40 days and see how your relationship with Christ has grown.

Psalm 6:1 - 2

O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger,
nor discipline me in your wrath.
Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing;
heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled.

Share with the Lord why you are languishing.  Ask for His graciousness to be upon you.

Ash Wednesday - A Time for Reflection

Ash Wednesday - the beginning of Lent and a time for reflection.

"All go to one place.  All are from the dust, and to dust all return." - Ecclesiastes 3:20

Death of our earthly body is inevitable.  Our bodies will return to dust because we are sinners.  The ashes placed on our forehead on Ash Wednesday are to remind us of our sin.  It is through Christ's death and resurrection that those "ashes" can be wiped clean.

Many times people choose to eliminate something in their life to help them reflect upon the sacrifices Christ made for us.  Take what you eliminated and fill it with something that will help draw you closer to the Lord.  Fill it with time with Him.  Spend time in prayer.  Spend time in scripture.  Spend time listening to Him.  Spend time seeing how Christ is truly present in your life.

When we draw closer to someone we can have a deeper empathy for them as they experience all the different things life throws at them.  When we draw closer to the Lord our empathy for the sacrifices He provided for us is deeper as well.  We truly see that through Him we have been given life.  There is nothing we can do that will eliminate the "ashes" from us.  It is only through Christ and what He has done for us that we are are clean.

It is a sobering time to reflect upon how our sins crucified our Savior.

Bible Passage for the Week

Hebrews 10:36 - "For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised."

Sometimes endurance is not the word we want to hear.  Endurance can be exhausting!  Yet, the Lord didn't say we had to endure on our own.  He is always with us and gives us the strength we need to endure.  When we have done the will of God the eternal promise we have been given will be waiting.  Endurance doesn't seem like such a bad word after all!
