Nourishment and Health

Nourishment is key to leading a healthy lifestyle.  What you consume can depict how healthy you are and I am not just talking about food.  What kind of nourishment are you consuming to maintain a healthy spiritual life?  Are you simply consuming “nutrition” on Sunday mornings or is there a daily consumption of “nutrition”?

Consider your daily diet of food.  Imagine if you consumed a very healthy meal one day a week and ate junk the rest of the week; your health would decline.  You would probably see elevations in your cholesterol, blood pressure, weight, etc. and it all came about because you didn’t consume healthy meals everyday of the week.  In reality, no one would expect to maintain a healthy life by simply consuming one healthy meal a week.  It is known in order to maintain a healthy life consuming healthy foods on a regular basis is important.

The same concept applies to our spiritual health.  We cannot just “consume” God’s word at church one day a week, fill the rest of the week with “junk” and expect to have a healthy spiritual life.  Having a healthy spiritual life is one that is “consuming” God’s word every day; it is spending time with the Lord in prayer; it is investing in the relationship with Christ.  God told the Israelites way back when…”And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall take of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.  You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.  You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:6-9.  God has provided us instruction in how to keep a healthy spiritual life.

How is your spiritual health?  Do you simply consume on Sunday mornings or are you taking moments each day to “consume” the Word?  Taking in “healthy nourishment” makes you feel better.  You will get to know your Savior a whole lot more.  You will experience that peace that He gives that surpasses all understanding.  You can hand over your burdens to Him.  You can gain the strength from Him that will get you through each and every day.  Nourish yourself!  He is waiting to feed you!
