Bible Passage for the Week

"For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek." Romans 1:16

This weekend we had the joy of celebrating our daughter's confirmation.  Fourteen years ago when she was baptized, her parents and godparents spoke on her behalf stating that we believe in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  This weekend she was able to speak for herself.  To watch a child grow in faith and know that Jesus is her Lord is moving.

When confirmed the pastor gives each child a scripture verse known as their confirmation verse.  Our daughter's confirmation verse was Romans 1:16.  A powerful verse to hang onto and know we have no reason to be ashamed of the Gospel!  The world may say what we believe is crazy but salvation through Christ is not at all crazy.  As our daughter continues to grow in her faith she can hold onto this verse knowing that no matter what the world has to say she has the Gospel!

If you were confirmed, do you remember your confirmation verse?  If not see if you can find it and see what scripture verse was given to you.

  1. Mine was Luke 10:42 -"But one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” I always thought it was really unusual (especially since my pastor specifically said he had to pick out something special for me) and even now it still confuses me a bit as to why he picked that one. I've never seen it as a confirmation verse for anyone else. :)

  2. Kristin, could it be that the pastor saw in you how you chose to spend time with God despite what your peers were doing? I see you as a person who has no shame of walking daily with Jesus. Let's face it - even today at your age your abnormal :-) Mary was excited to sit before Jesus and learn. I see in you the excitment of having a relationship with Christ.
