Follow…This past year my youngest daughter was able to
participate in her first “Sheep Project”.
We purchased a Southdown lamb for her to show at the summer county
fairs, which required her to work with her lamb daily. She fed her lamb, walked her lamb, spent time
with him, washed him, and helped sheer when it came to show day. As the spring days grew longer and the more
time she spent with “Gibbles” the easier it became to work with him. Gibbles became very comfortable around
her. Gibbles followed her around and
when it came to showing him in the shows he simply stood there. However, I had the opportunity to show him in
a different show and he did not just stand there. Quite frankly, he was a pain
to show. It simply came down to the fact
that he did not know me as well as my daughter.
I had not spent time working with him like my daughter had.
I find it fascinating that scripture compares us to sheep
and how accurate the description is.
Jesus notes, “The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen
to his voice. He calls his own sheep by
name and leads them out. When he has
brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him
because they know his voice. But they
will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they
do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” (John 10:3-5) Jesus uses this analogy to demonstrate how
sheep follow the voice they know. Jesus
is before us and has asked us to follow Him.
To follow we need to know Him; we need to know His voice. However,
experience has demonstrated becoming familiar is accomplished through time
spent together. If we don’t spend time in His word how can we know? If we don’t spend time in worship again how
can we know? We will not know God by
just saying we are Christian. We have to
spend time with Him. Get to know His
voice and let Him lead you!
